Black-capped Chickadee

from Wikipedia

This is the kind of weather that drives people south, 38 degrees and heavy fog. I'm using my GoLite each day with the lessening daylight we are getting this time of year.

That said, a big bright spot in my day are the Black-capped Chicadees that frequent my bird feeder. A farmer friend told me that cattle need extra food in cold weather just to keep their body heat up. I suppose that is true for my winged friends, too. We feed straight black sunflower seeds. I just resupplied the feed late in the day yesterday. So my little friends are very busy this morning.
I am also reminded of the many in our world who go hungry each day. Time to check my Kiva projects. Something to work on this day.
