Salem's Satisfying Sunday Soup
If you are hungry, down on your luck and looking for a good meal in Salem Oregon, you can go to Jason Lee Methodist Church. The good folks there have been serving soup every Sunday for at least 25 years. Three of us from St. Mark Lutheran helped out this Sunday. There are about six helper congregations. Sunday was our turn. We brought three kinds with us: turkey, sort of a chili with noodles and Audrey's beef and vegetable soup. All were heavy on flavor and protein. There were already pots of soup cooking when we got there. And plenty of bread, lunch meat and cheese set out on the tables, with ice cream for dessert provided by Jason Lee. Two of our crew filled bowls. I ran the dish washer. About forty came by. Some even took soup home with them. And the soups must have been nourishing because there was nothing left at the end of the day! Even though we ate before or after at home, this soup satisfied us, too. That's how love grows. Give it away and it comes back. Maybe not right back. All I know is they ate, and we were satisfied.
