Last night,Tom Brady and the New England Patriots beat the Buffalo Bills 56 to 10. Do we care? No. Very predictable football. Perfection is boring.
Enter Derek Anderson and the Cleveland Browns. The game is over appears to be over with a Ravens win. The teams start toward the locker room.
But wait! That field goal did count after all! Derek and the Browns come back and win the game.
Anderson is known as the Moose from Scappoose (Oregon). I went to Concordia Academy, probably the smallest high school in Oregon in the 50s. We played Scappoose.
Derek went on to play for Oregon State. Schools that have the word “State” tacked on to the end of them were once called “A and M’s.” Generally, they all have one thing in common. They don’t get the big money that state has to spend. That money goes to the Universities, such as Colorado, Washington and Oregon. State schools never have the football money the universities have. The smallest teams in the PAC 10 are Oregon State and Washington State.
So Derek played for a football team that got him sacked lots of times. But then Mike Riley and Dennis Erickson came along and Oregon State got into and won some ball games.
His greatest Bowl victory was against Notre Dame, whose quarterback was Brady Quinn. The Browns drafted Quinn as their Franchise QB.
But Derek is playing so well he's kept Quinn off the field.
Yesterday’s game was magic. Much more fun than the Brady and the Patriots!
