I suppose we all have songs that play in our heads. I'm sure they date us. But that's another day's story. The good thing is that you can often find out where they came from on Youtube. One such song is the Donkey Serenade. The late great Mario Lanza used to sing it. His version is a key element in Heavenly Creatures, a very interesting movie. Based on the true story of Juliet Hulme and Pauline Parker, two close friends who share a love of fantasy and literature, who conspire to kill Pauline's mother when she tries to end the girls' intense and obsessive relationship.
Someone on Youtube reveals the original source of Donkey Serenade, a movie called The Firefly. It's a spy movie from 1937.
