A few weeks back our minister noted that many people believe military sacrifice trumps other sacrifice. In this view, a soldier living and dying for his country is of greater value than a mother Theresa type living and dying in helping others.
Democrats generally have the problem of honoring military sacrifice. The problem is that the cause for which they are giving life and limb is dead wrong. It's hard to say that about the cause to someone who has given a son or daughter to forward it.
Yet military causes have often been wrong. One need go no further than US military actions against native Americans. And the military itself has plenty of errors and egos within its ranks.
I've decided not to patiently accept any mass e-mails that glorify military sacrifice. I got one yesterday and answered it. One recipient who wrote back thought my response was right on. Another who took the opposite point of view. Oh well... At least, maybe I will get fewer of them.
