Starting tomorrow
I find some comfort in knowing that starting tomorrow the days will be getting longer. Today is the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year. Even though this is also the beginning of winter, we know spring can't be too far behind. History books tell me that I am in good company. In many regions, this was and is a time for celebration. Christians added many features of such celebrations to their Christmas. I don't think that is bad. For me, it's a matter of remembering which part goes where. Our visiting theologian this year at our church stressed the importance of friendships in making us better people. We all need friends and celebrating with them is a way of strengthening those friendships. So lets celebrate the good people God has given us. It doesn't take away from Christmas, which is God's special good thing. Thanks for stopping by.
