This is the day when many church people gather in their sanctuaries and hear these words "Remember, oh man, that you are dust. To dust you will return." It's a good reminder of our humanity. Often ashes are mentioned at graveside services as well. The solemnity of the terminology was ruined for me, however, by Howard T, who had his own personal limerick for ashes to ashes.
Lent used to be a time for people to give up something. I'm using the day to start something instead. It's a new construction project. This is going to end up as the file cabinent drawer in a computer desk. I've learned to start out with the tricky parts rather than end with them.
Does your family have any Lenten traditions? Why not share with us. Thanks.
