Probably my last trip to Costco

We were out of popcorn and the spouse complained about what I bought at our regular grocery store.  So, not being busy on this rainy afternoon, I decide to go to Costco.  They feature Orville Redenbacker popcorn in the convenient 8 pound plastic jar.  Since I don't plan on going back any time soon, I bought two.  So that's $1.50 pound.  And of course, I'm doing the warehousing.

While I am there, I remember that we need bread.  Actual loaves of bread are about half a block away from the front entrance.  They couldn't be further and still be in the store.  And of course, I have to buy two.  That's two at 5.99 or three dollars a loaf.  We are now a family of two so we will probably freeze one of the loaves.  Once again we are doing the warehousing.

I remember also that we have no bananas.  Now, I know bananas a Winco are 59 cents a pound and even cheaper at Walmart, where they are 52 cents a pound.  You can pick what you want.  Not at Costco.  They have decided that you will buy three pounds.  That's a lot of bananas for two in a week.  And like much of what they sell, they are plastic wrapped.  So you can't really see what you are buying.  If there are no bad bananas and their scale is to be believed, the price is 46 cents a pound.

I've taken to eating almonds as a snack.  You can get them at bulk foods at Winco where I usually buy maybe three or four ounces.  At Costco, I have to buy three pounds.  The price is competitive, but it's not good for me to warehouse snacks because if I have them, I eat them.

And since I was there anyway, I bought gas.  I did save money on the gas because they were selling for 4.05  and we paid 4.11 at the place we usually buy for the other car yesterday.  I needed about 8 gallons so saved 48 cents.

Did I save any money?  Probably not because we have to factor in the $50 annual membership fee, food that spoils when kept too long, the distance to the store and the like.  So I've taken us off of automatic renewal.  Not that it will make the slightest difference to anyone where I shop.  The parking lot was full...
