Every now and then, my credit card company sends me a $20.00 check. It's a free $20.00 from them. But wait a minute. They don't really give money away. If I cash the check, I am also signing up for a banking service I don't really want that has a monthly fee. I tore up the check and threw it into the recycling.
I wasn't that smart a couple of weeks ago. I was looking through a Neil Diamond search over at Amazon.com. There at the bottom of the page there is an offer for 15 Neil Diamond ring tones free. But it's the same scheme as the bank's and I fell for it. What I succeeded in doing was signing up for a daily text messaged joke. Not only am I subject to their fee, but there is also a daily text message fee from the cell provider. Ouch!
So if you see a great offer, don't just dive in. Investigate.
