The Missing Link...

Rule One of Home Repair: Don't add to the damage you are trying to fix.
That's hard to avoid. Recently in fixing a spot of dry rot I had to take down the downspout. In the process of putting it back up I broke the adapter which connects the downspout to the 3 inch drain pipe. Now, these adapters are used all over our neighborhood. One might think that Lowe's or Home Depot would stock them. Wrong!
Then there is the matter of measurements. I trust you know that a 2 x 4 isn't two by four. It is more like 3 1/2 by 1 1/2. Transferred to the wonderful world of downspout adapters, a 2 x 3 x 3 adapter is actually more like 2 1/2 by 3 1/2 x 3 1/4 unless you are connecting to thick wall three inch pipe. I was able to find my missing link at Saffron Plumbing Supply, thank goodness. So today I am celebrating by going to the coast...
