I use Bloglines to harvest podcasts I can download to listen to while I'm walking or driving.
Recently, The End of Overeating by David Kessler showed up on two separate podcasts. Terry Gross interviewed the author on Fresh Air, There was also a story on the most E-Mailed story of the day. If you can't seem to lose weight (most of us, it seems,) the book might be worth a second look. I listened to Terry Gross' interview.. It seems that sugar, fat and salt have created their own neuro transmitter links in our brains and the more we eat combinations of these foods, the more we crave them. So it answers the question of appetite. Logic tells us that if we want to lose weight all we have to do is to eat less and exercise more. But that doesn't turn off the neuro transmitters in our brains. It appears that Kessler's answer to the problem is in part to understand how we got there.

Here's Rodale Press (the Prevention Magazine) take: http://www.rodale.com/overeating-and-food-marketers They caution that will power can actually be a stumbling block.
