The Home Front
A had me scan some old photos for a project she is working on. As I think about this photo I'm going to guess that it was a farewell visit to Grandma's house in 1942. We moved to Tacoma, Washington that year in time to start school there, which would have been late summer. The site is Grandma's garden, which was always huge. Dad's two brothers enlisted in the Army as engineers. Dad would like to have joined them. However, I'm not sure they would have taken the father of two motherless children. He worked in the Todd AO Shipyards in Tacoma for the duration of the war instead. After that, he went into business with a friend he met there, which lasted 42 years.
