Try Maryhill Museum

Most people expecting to tour an art museum would look for it in a large city. But Maryhill Museum is as out of the way as you could expect. Maryhill Museum of Art, its cafĂ©, gift shop, gardens and picnic grounds, overlook the Columbia River on Washington’s SR 14, just west of US 97 and across the Biggs Rapids-Sam Hill Bridge from I-84.

Hood River, with its abundant fruit, is about an hour and a half from Portland. Maryhill is maybe another hour further, but worth the trip. I found that my camera has a setting for copying art in museums without flash. That's allowable at Maryhill. You see the results above. There is also an Andy Warhol exhibit, but taking pictures of it is prohibited.
