Optimism

G alerted me to the fact that today is "Blog Action Day," dealing with the topic of world hunger.
We are fed a steady diet of news that generally isn't really news. It's what titillates our desires to see the latest car crash, axe murder, and celebrity melt down. Often the news we are fed creates its own weather, like Mt. Rainier. There's been plenty of that in the recent financial news.

But on the whole for me there are reasons for optimism. "Blog Action Day" is one reason. Another reason is the whole new way of looking at help for the poor called micro finance. You can learn more about it on the Microcredit Summit Campaign page.

Another is the McGovern - Dole campaign for feeding school children around the world.

For some time now, world leaders, including people like Bono, have been pointing out that one out of six people on the planet live on less than a dollar a day. But they have also pointed out that we have the power to change that. The first goal is to get half way by 2015. Then get the rest of the way by 2025.

The fact that children are starving to death daily is completely unacceptable, yet that's what's been happening. But there are so many great stories about people getting in and doing something about the problem that it is truly heart warming.

If you are not one of those people yet, you can be, starting today. I just added to my Kiva account today. This is my fourth investment. I wish I had a lot more. I am starting to see some of my folks pay back their loans. Learning and watching is satisfying indeed. That feeling is just a chick away for you as well. For other heartwarming stories, try the orphans foundation fund.
Here you'll meet people who have given their hearts to Africa.
