As a former soldier I will tell you that no one wants this war to end more than the soldiers. Too many of you feel that the Generals are warmongers and that it is all a game to them, I assure you that no soldier, whatever his rank, has ever loved war. We do realize that they must be fought to preserve our freedoms, our families, our religions, and our way of life. To say you support the soldiers by campaigning for them to come home before they finish their job is to say that you want them to cut and run. It is a slap in the face of every soldier deployed today, and to every soldier who has paid the ultimate sacrifice. Unlike the soldiers of an earlier day who were conscripted into military service, our soldiers today volunteer. They are fighting because they have a love of country that those who campaign to cut them off at the knees can never know. When the Congress lobbies to withhold funding for the war, they are actually withholding beans and bullets, holding back the needed armor and the latest equipment that will keep them alive. You don’t have to love the war, but don’t abet the enemy at the expense of our soldiers.
