The Birds of our Back Yard

A few years back, the kids gave me a bird feeder for my birthday, along with a bag of sunflower seeds. The feeder hangs from a stand outside my office window, where it's often the first thing I see when I look outside. It's amazing how many different visitors come by to feed. It's a pleasure to identify them and do a little to care for them. This Christmas, I gave A the book pictured above as part of her gift.

A few years ago, we rented David Attenborough's legendary study, The Life of Birds from our public library. It is truly an amazing series. With wildly varied body types, colors and habits, birds are everywhere. We're happy that includes our back yard.
