BEST BUY vs PCCLUB

My wheelchair bound brother decided he needed to update his computer system about six months ago. We consulted various family members about the best approach, but finally he and I just set off for the stores. We didn't get beyond Best Buy. The staff was very helpful. We were out of there in a couple of hours with a trunk full of equipment. Their Geek Squad guy would be by on the following Saturday to hook everything up. He showed up on time. My brother went with digital cable, and when the Geek left everything worked!

My computer died a couple of months ago. I went to PCClub and left with another trunk full of gear. Family members helped me hook it up. And now that I have gone to DSL I think my system is equal to my brother's.

So what's the big difference between BEST BUY and PCCLUB?

Rebates!

Both computers are low end because neither of us is into rocket science or brain surgery. So the prices were not far apart. But the brother's system came with five or six rebate forms that had to be filled in to get the low price. It took more than hours. It literally took days because a couple forms had to wait for his first new cable bill. Even so, I screwed up two of them and he got them back. I'm afraid to ask if he ever got all of the money.

PCCLUB did not require one single rebate! I love that! I hate rebates. This week's Cathy had the best commentary on rebate requirements so I will just link you there. Chick on Cathy, and happy reading!

Thanks for the Cathy link. I posted it on my rebate website. If you find out your brother had problems with those rebates, you might want to suggest it to him. It's a site where you can report problems (or success) with rebates. You can post rebate complaints at my Rebate Report Card site or just go there to look for news about rebate legislation, etc.
