I think maybe I could hold my own on quiz shows like Jeopardy and Millionaire in most categories. The killer would be pop music. I simply have no knowledge, interest or clue about music groups of the last couple of decades.
Yet the more I hear and see about Bono, the better I like him. I have yet to hear any of his music, but I love the tune he sings. I heard it first in his Preface of The End of Poverty. He cares about the poor and those dying of hunger in this world. He sang it again at the National Prayer Breakfast. And his melody plays on at the One Campaign website.
I don't think you'll be ashamed to keep company with the people at the One Campaign.
There are groups like Bread for the World, Mercy Corps, Oxfam America, Save the Children US, World Vision, and the National Basketball Association. It was funded to the tune of 3 million dollars by the Bill & Melina Gates Foundation.
At the Prayer Breakfast, He said:
A number of years ago, I met a wise man who changed my life. In countless ways, large and small, I was always seeking the Lord’s blessing. I was saying, you know, I have a new song, look after it… I have a family, please look after them… I have this crazy idea…
And this wise man said: stop.
He said, stop asking God to bless what you’re doing.
Get involved in what God is doing—because it’s already blessed.
Well, God, as I said, is with the poor. That, I believe, is what God is doing.
And that is what He’s calling us to do."
This Sunday, the Church commemorates the Transfiguration. The Voice on that
ancient Mountain said "This is My Beloved Son! Listen to Him!"
May we be found in the company of those who aid the poor and hungry of this world.
