I'm not a Walmart fan because of their labor practices in this country and around the world. Sometimes, however, I just find it easier to do business with them than not to. So how does their music download system stack up?
I got a Siren mp3 player, purchased at Walmart as a Christmas gift. It came with ten free downloads. I'll use my criticism of iTunes as a guide to grade Walmart.
1. The wrong county issue. At Walmart, no problem.
2. Mp4 issue. Walmart downloads are in WMA format. (Windows Media Player) Their literature states
that they are not compatible with iPods.
3. High speed internet issue. Walmart works with Windows 98 and dial up access.
4. Customer Service. No necessity to scroll through a long list of possible problems.
5. Telephone Customer Service. Walmart has it! I called their customer service number and the person answering was located in Texas, not India and was very helpful. The wait time was about four minutes.
6. Cost. 88 cents a download.
7. I still don't think I will download much as I would still rather have the album, but I am pleasantly surprised by Walmart music. I have to give them an A.
