I'm back to walking in the evening, and to pass the time, I've returned to my collection of media from Garrison Keillor. Tonight I listened to "A Visit to Mark Twain's House." Kellior points out that Twain had an engaging personality which allowed him to speak his mind and yet not offend people. On Tape one of "A Visit..." there is a damning indictment of killing especially among those who count themselves as Christians. I found the words repeated on a Mark Twain site.
They all did their best--to kill being the chiefest ambition of the human race and the earliest incident in its history-- but only the Christian civilization has scored a triumph to be proud of. Two or three centuries from now it will be recognized that all the competent killers are Christians; then the pagan world will go to school to the Christian--not to acquire his religion, but his guns.
