From time to time, the Statesman Journal runs a "winners" and "losers" column at the end of the week. I could call mine "pluses" and "minuses." First minus was discovering last Sunday that replacing the starter in my car didn't solve a starting problem I had. As a result, the 92 Buick couldn't be trusted for transportation until another solution was found. You see in the preceding post my theory that repair shops are going to charge you at least $300 to fix your car, probably more. My neighbor mentioned in that post got her car back. The bill was about $350.I was definitely against making that investment in my car. Spent Monday night sleeping in a church youth room as overnight host for the Salem Interfaith Hospitality network. I think I have to put that in the "plus" category, even though the accomodations were not great. We helped that program and in the process learned and confirmed our knowledge of homelessness and poverty. Wednesday's plus was touching base with old friends. Great to see them, though most are on a different political wave length.. Wednesday's minus was the return of the summer cold. I give each day's high temperature a minus as well.
Seeing "Ladies in Lavender" with friends who are on the same political wave length as us on Thursday goes down in the plus column. Hearing good news about the stepgrand daughter is a plus. Then there is a site called Automotive Forum, where a poster seems to know what to do to fix the 92 Buick. Down side is a trip to the shop to put in a "Crank Position Sensor." This is a tiny part that is hard for someone of my level of skills to put in. Plus side is that it cost about $130, not $350! It seems correct the problem!
Plus or Minus? I don't know. I turned in the keys for PO Box 5723. The rent runs out Sunday, and I no longer need a business box. A lot of good things came through that Box. That doesn't mean I am completely out of business, however. Just don't need the box any more, or rather don't need to pay the box rent.
Today we ended on a high note at the Saturday Market, a wonderful place for food, pictures and fragrances. And wonder of wonders! The salmon lady is back this year. Salmon for supper! It's a good thing!
