For everything there is a season...a time to plant...
Few things are as fragrant as sweet peas. There are many theories about when to plant them. I've started them indoors and transplanted them. That didn't work well for me because they have to recover from being transplanted. Those above went into the ground in February last year in a trench six inches deep. I added soil as they grew. Seeds were from Ed Hume at humeseeds.safeshopper.com Last fall I came across another source who said that you could fall plant sweet peas on the coast. I planted my backyard patch and they are now up. Sweet peas can stand a fair amount of cold. I expect couple more frosts but I think they will make it. The most fragrant that I can think of would be a star lily, but those are too much for me. One of my biggest favorites with a scent would be a rose from the garden (not those hot house roses with no fragrance). My favorite flower does not have a fragrance, and that would be a yellow tulip.
